The Steps: Tango
The tango is one of the most sensual and sexy dances around. It involves an easy flow of movement with sharp kick steps, all the while staying very close with your partner. Can you blame me for loving it?
A bit of history: Tango originated in Argentina. The style has been around for more than 150 years, but has gone through several evolutions. Today, there are many styles of tango danced around the world, with the hub of the dance culture still in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
How to: The tango revolves around the easy-flow of movement between partners. The feet rarely leave the ground, but rather slide and glide into position. And each turn or major movement is done sharply and on point. It’s like a sexy punch in the face with a heel.

I always admire Derek's tangos (ballroom more than the argentinian). I've liked every single routine he has created. My fav of all has been Jennifer and Derek AT, then these:

Nobody can tango like Derek Hough, not even the Argentinians-and I am Hispanic, so I know a bit about tango-It's the product of European inmigrants from the 1880's whose musical folk traditions(like gypsy)merged with African rhythms. Derek caught my eye during S10, when he did that dazzling tango with Jenn Grey.I could not believe this blonde all American kid could do such a smashing genuine tango, better than the Argentinian dancers featured on Broadway's Tango!What dapper elegance, with his fedora over his eyes and the stylish clipped jerky motions-never had I seen better dancer, not even Barishnikov doing the tango!Later I learned Derek went to Argentina to learn from the source.But what a knack this new Kelly-Valentino has of creating masculine beauty in motion out of the turn of a torso with the poise of a God!No dancer alive compares to Mr.Hough!

Honestly, I have loved every single Derek Hough tango. I've said it before, Derek and the Tango are a match made in heaven. And Nicole was such a brilliant partner for you. I think the two of you should do a film together. -

Nicole looked absolutely amazing, but I have to agree with Nish that the routine with Jennifer Grey was gorgeous!
I'm addicted to the sensual Tango, but I'm at a dance studio which is mostly Latin, so I don't get to dance it as much as I would like to. My favorite tango song is "El Tango de Roxanne" from Moulin Rouge. Perhaps an idea for the next season? ;) -
I don't Argentine tango yet, but I want to...I got hooked on the music of Astor Piazzola many years ago, and it, to me, is perfect for this dance. It's dark and primal and rhythmically complex...it drags you into the smoky club where you are pulled by the gaze of the mysterious stranger standing in the corner. The Argentine Tango is the kind of dance that doesn't exist in polite society...which is, I think, a huge part of its appeal. It's the dance you shouldn't be doing with the person you shouldn't be doing it with...and therein lies the intrigue. I can't wait to learn it. Need the right teacher, though. I want someone who gets the darkness of the dance. -
Ok, when I pause on Derek's ATs his footwork & calf positions look perfectly placed to me. It's on the show boards that D went to Argnentina to study this dance. True??? The AT is one of my favorite of Derek's dances...you smolder w/an intensity that just borders on overwhelming w/out crossing,,,hard to do, Sir Dance Dream!

This is an amazing routine! But I have to say that my absolute favorite Tango routine so far is the one that you performed in season 11 with Jennifer Grey! I also love when you are performing with the other professional dancers. I saw the routine that you did with Allison in season 13, that alone made me want to start taking dance lessons. I am always excited when I know you are going to do the Rumba, Tango, and Paso Doble. -

I've noticed that you have gotten at least one '10' from the judges on all of your Argentine Tangos! I can't believe it's a 'new' dance to you... I love your Arg Tangos and Paso Dobles the best.
