Happy New Year’s Eve everyone!
I’m stoked to be starting fresh in 2013. I’m a big fan of making resolutions in order to better my life in the New Year. I find that setting these goals helps me gain happiness and grow as a person.
I know sometimes people find it hard to stick to their guns with the whole resolution thing, but I found that if I write these goals down before ringing in the New Year at midnight, they’re engrained in my mind from day one. Once 12 o’clock strikes… BOOM! It’s on like Donkey-Kong, and all of a sudden I’m in a competition with myself, pushing myself to stick to it.
So, here are my 3 resolutions that I’ve already written down for 2013:
1. Live in the moment
2. Stop overthinking
3. Give myself credit
You all should definitely give it a try. It’s such an awesome feeling if you are able to accomplish those goals.
If you are already planning on setting resolutions, shoot me a comment to let me know what they are.

I've already started my New Year's resolution 42 weeks ago. With diet and exercise I've managed to drop 89 lbs. and I'm no longer on any diabetes medication. I've still got another 62 lbs. to go but, I feel great and I know that I'm going to succeed. Now if I can only figure out how to get rid of the Sharpei look on a zero budget. Does anyone know a good plastic surgeon that does pro bono work? LOL -
#3 is a must for you!!! :) There is a beautiful tribute made for you to see how EPIC you already are.:)) http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F&gl=TR You deserve all the best things in the world. Happy 2013! :)) -

I hope that the new year brings you tons of happiness, health, and continued inspiration, Derek! Lots of Love! -
My resolutions include but not limited to-
Lose 367 lbs
Invest in Garrett's popcorn
Make you mine ;0
Happy New Years Derek! -
My New Years resolution is Not to make a resolution. That way I can't forget what my resolution is or was. With my memory trouble it's best that way. It's not Alzheimer's either. My neurologist said it was Memory Block. Possibly due to a childhood illness I had as an infant. It just means I can't always remember things that I already know. So I don't make resolutions. I just live each day like it's my last day and make it a happy day if I can. God Bless you and Happy New Year! -
Like yoruself - look forward to a clean slate and pushing myself to be and do better.
A few of mine are:
Start taking piano lessons (digital keyboard to be exact) again.
Lift weights during the TV commercials.
When someone asks for help - don't put my agenda first - just do it from the get go.
Happy New Year to an amazing and most talented dancer, blogger, musician, and fitness/health aficianado. -
My New Year's Resolutions
1)To Move To A New City
2)To Go Back To A Career In Corporate Communications/PR,(Started this goal at the end of 2012 by closing my privately owned company, Public Relations is where I am truly happy!)
3)To join organizations to enhance my business networking relationships and career skills.
4)Start a Blog on Hobbies and things that amuse me just for fun (Started that in December of 2012)!
5)To Work On Being A Healthier Me (Workout More, Eat Healthier Meals, More Sleep, etc., started in 2012 already, I just want to continue the goal)
6)To Love Life and Live in the Moment and enjoy the experience more! As humans sometimes we get so caught up in work& we do not appreciate the simple things of everyday life and the people we truly love! I have plans to enjoy those things more in 2013!
7)To Follow The Way Of Love! To show an act of kindness to my fellow man and put a smile on someone’s face every day!
8)To Find Love Again
Hope you,your family,and all the Derek Fans a very blessed 2013! :)

Hi Mr.Hough,
I am not in the practice of making [new years]resolutions. If I'm going to do something and make a change in my life, for me there is nothing special beginning it at the new year. I am a highly motivated person, so when I commit to doing something...I DO IT no matter the time. In fact, I make it a point not to make resolutions at the new year. I commit to changing or doing something precisely not at the the new year because as I have seen over and over again how it is a recipe for failure. My best advice, the time do act or change is in the moment...do it NOW. :-)
Other than this I have no opinion whatsoever...LOL
Happy 2013

Hi Derek. I hope you had a Merry Christmas and I wish you and Your Whole Family a Very Happy New Year! As for resolutions, I love your first one, Live in the Moment. I've been doing that for years and its Awesome. For me ....
1) I wrote this on my bathroom mirror - Don't look for reasons why you can't do something. Find a way to make it happen.
2) Get stronger physically. I've lost alot of strength this year. Going to work to get it back.
3) Do I really need three?
Have a great day and please keep us fans posted on your movie and appearances. xoxo -

I use to do that all the time and I'm happy to see I'm not the only person to do that ! (actually I felt a little beet stupide ! =) ) My resolutions:
1-Have fun
2-Take care of my friends and family and spend a lot of time with them
3-Listen to music, dance and sing as much as I can
4-and maybe find love =) -
Great resolutions, especially #3. It was amazing to hear the praise you received at the Emmys discussion on Choreographers from Kenny Ortega & Paula Abdul. But it was something all your fans already knew. We have watched you excel over 10 seasons on DWTS. There is no one who can match your creativity, or the innovative style that blew our minds dance after dance. We have all told you, now believe it! Your humble nature prevents you from expressing it, but please know it in your heart. We do.
I would just add 1 more resolution for you. Please keep us informed. We have followed and supported you for 10 seasons. We knew where to find you for 10 wks twice a year. Now, we need you to tell us when you will be on TV (with a little notice to set the DVRs). (BTW, you never mentioned being a co-host on The View-Just saying!) Also, advance notice of your public appearances so we can plan travel, if we need to. (New Years Eve in Las Vegas might have been really fun if we knew you'd be there.) We want to continue being your loyal fans and support you in everything you do, but it’s difficult if we don’t know. So please make a New Years resolution to provide a calendar on this website with all TV and public appearances. It would be greatly appreciated! Looking forward to a 2013 filled with more amazing Derek Hough moments! -
I think your resolutions are good for all of us. Also, Derek, do you have a relative who is a concert pianist? On my way home someone named Hough was playing the Rachaninoff Piano Conerto #2, and I wondered if you are related? -
Good idea on writing them down. Definitely gonna do this. I haven't been taking good care of myself both physically and mentally. This is the year for positive change. I've made myself a short term goal (I get overwhelmed and/or sabotage myself if it's much more) of three months to make myself a priority!
Thanks for the motivation Derek ~ -
My new years resolution has to do with dogs:D! i already have 5, 3 that we adopted! thinking of adopting yet another one! they are my true loves! eheh -
I love your resolutions. I have a word of advice for one of them though. #3----Give yourself credit. Definately, but also don't vocalize it with others. You don't need anyone else being judgemental of you, unless you're in competition, you don't need others to make you feel good about yourself. Only you can do that. Have a Happy and safe New Years. Hopefully we'll see you on the tube at Dick Clarks Rockin' Eve show. -
Great resolutions!
I took your advice and chose these 4 for myself, based on 2012's experiences:
1. "stay focused" ('cause I need to tranquilize my mind)
2. "have more faith in myself" (I CAN!!!)
3. "seek simplicity" (enough drama!)
4. "make sure I offer and do my best in any situation" ('cause there's too many people doing quite the opposite nowadays)
HAPPY NEW YEAR, DEREK!
Can't wait to see what you'll bring on in 2013! -
This year I plan to remember birthdays! All thru the year. I'm usually good Jan, Feb, Mar,..... But this year, I am remembering birthdays, nieces, nephews, everyone. all year long. -
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY !!!!; LOTS OF HAPPINESS, PEACE, LOVE AND MOST IMPORTANT HEALTH !!!!!
My resolutions:
1. Learn how to play piano. I already registered starting monday jan 7th.
2. Be happy and enjoy every minute of my life.
3. Stop eating so much ice cream and chocolate. I am usually pretty good on working out and eating healthy , but when I have those cravings .. not good!!! Can eat the half gallon of ice cream in one night. Need to control myself.
4. Start to play tennis again and show my son how to play .
5. Read more. Love to read history, need to do it more .
By the way Derek, love your resolutions. -

Good resolutions Derek! Mine are as follows.......
No.1 - Think Positively (anything can be achieved)
No.2 - Get fit (seriously!)
No.3 - Stop watching your & Shawn's dances on YT lol (that's one that I won't mind breaking)
Happy New Year to you & yours! x -
Those are some good ones for sure Derek. And as I close in on my 80th birthday in January, I plan to continue teaching ballroom dancing, although on a limited basis; continue to play a wide variety of good music as I DJ for dances in our area, and take care of the good lady as she continues to recover from a severely broken leg and both ankles of her right foot. Should keep me pretty busy. We want to wish you and yours a very Happy New Year! -
Never to young or too old to learn. I can relate to your three and may borrow them for self examination from time to time. Here are mine from a 60 something fan from Canada:
1. Unclutter my body and my home.
2. Plan and manage time better.
3. Stop/look and listen to people and say I love you.
