When I’m not dancing, I’m watching movies about dancing — haha, kidding! However, I can’t deny that I have several favorite dance flicks. Check out my top picks below:

Dear Derek,
I also like the follow-up movie to Saturday Night Fever, "Stayin' Alive." Here is a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GG-OdnpQ3w
This movie has John Travolta, Cynthia Rhodes, and Finola Hughes dancing in it! So be sure to check this one out, if you haven't seen it!
"The Wizard of Oz" with Judy Garland has some dancing in it, too!
I agree with you about "White Nights" it is awesome! -
Love all your pics, and all on my list as well. I add Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, On the Town, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, and Robin & The Seven Hoods. Oh, and how can we leave out American in Paris! The dance routines from all these musical films alone could keep anyone satisfied and happy.
In a bad mood, watch a musical! -
I have seen everyone of these musicals and I can see you filling the lead role in anyone of them. Personal favorite is Top Hat. Fred Astaire was the best in his day. Would love to see a side by side dance scene with you and one of his. -

No doubt those I saw all less 2 or 3... footloose prefer of 1984.... (with kevin bacon)... other films most recent also I like are STEP UP 3 for example :) -
My all-time favorite dance movie is "White Nights" hands down. Next is "West Side Story", then old Fred Astaire movies and all the ones you have listed. I do think I'd have to include "Grease" and "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" just because of the really interesting choreography. Thanks for making me think about it! There are so many others, but that's it for now. -
I love Singing in the Rain. I hope this will also be remaked just like Footloose. I think, you, Derek, will fit perfectly to Gene Kelly's part. :D
But aside from that wonderful movie, I also love NEWSIES...a great film with great dance moves and choreography..I also like You Got Served... -
You listed one of my major favorites; Dirty Dancing! Some of the others I haven't seen, but will see them in future as I love dance and dance movies. Some of my other favorite dance movies are: Take The Lead and Shall We Dance. -
Of those you've listed, my favorite is West Side Story. I also like Chicago, Singing in the Rain, and Dirty Dancing. Some of the others I haven't seen but will watch in the future. I trust your recommendations that much. My love of dance movies goes way back to the heyday of musicals in the late forties and into the fifties. Loved them all but my favorite from that era is Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. -
Dirty Dancing, Footloose, and Singing in the Rain have always been favorites of mine.
I also loved Take the Lead with Antonio Banderas. Fantastic movie, great story. -
Here are my favorite dance movies! 1. Dirty Dancing 2. Dirty Dancing Havana nights 3. Dance with me -

Love the eclectic nature of your choices. Some of my favorites not on your list are Seven Brides for Seven Brothers(1954) w/ Jane Powell and a young Russ Tamblyn, White Christmas(1954) I adore Danny Kaye and Vera Ellen, On the Town(1949) with your favorite Gene Kelly,
Vera Ellen, Frank Sinatra and Ann Mitchell and Royal Wedding(1951) with Fred Astaire and Jane Powell. I love classic song and dance movies! -
Top Hat, there's just something about that movie, West Side Story and Saturday Night Fever. Dance movies, you can watch them time and time again. -
Dirty Dancing, Save The Last Dance and Annie are my top 3, but I enjoy Flashdance, Footloose and others quite a bit as well. -
All fantastic choices. I would add to my list a could holiday titles that I believe a fabulous, White Christmas and Easter Parade. -
Dirty Dancing is my my favorite. Then Footloose. The one your sister is in. Chicago is great. -
Love your choices!! Strictly Ballroom is a fantastic movie! I think you should star in a remake!! :) -
-
I love all of your choices! I would add one of my all time favorites, GREASE! One of my favorite dance ensemble numbers ever is from GREASE! Talking about HAND JIVE! That is amazing work, lots of choreography. In fact, I have wanted this to be done by the pros on DWTS! Or as a group dance number with the pros and partners! Just think that would be so cool to see the rendition by all of you on DWTS! -
I agree with all your choices. My favorite is Singing in the Rain and not for Gene Kelly's dance in the rain, but for the fantastic tapping by him and Donald O'Connor in the number "Moses Supposes"...brilliant! May I suggest you check out Broadway Melody of 1940 with Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell. The "Begin the Beguine" number is one of my very favorites of Fred's. You can find it on YouTube. -
Footloose is my all time favorite movie ever. I love the newest version of Footloose its one I could watch over and over again and never get tired of watching it.
