The New York Times recently profiled 8-time Olympics photographer David Burnett. He’s been photographing the Olympics since 1984, and he has some great insight about capturing iconic moments. According to Burnett, it basically boils down to “not screwing up” the moment a dramatic shot presents itself. He also mentions the importance of choosing unexpected vantage points to get unique angles on the action at the Olympics. And, he points out that the Olympic games are sort of “photographer’s Olympics” in that all the best photographers in the world converge at the games to take pictures of the same events. It’s a competition to see whose photos become the most iconic!
You can read the full interview and view a gallery of some of Burnett’s most memorable work at NYTimes.com. See more of his work on Burnett’s website.
Do you have any tricks for capturing great photos at performances or athletic events?
