When I heard about the tragedy at the Thursday night screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora Colorado, my initial reaction was shock, anger, and overwhelming sympathy for the families affected by this senseless act.
In the days following the shooting, some stories have emerged that remind us how good people can be. These stories don’t undo the horror that happened, but hopefully they provide some solace.

When Stephanie Davies’ friend Allie Young was hit with a bullet, she instinctively held her fingers over Young’s wound until help arrived. According to the Huffington Post, Davies’ quick thinking saved her friend’s life. Young is now recovering in the hospital, where President Obama visited both girls.
John Larimer Gives His Life to Save His Girlfriend
According to The Chicago Suntimes, Larimer covered his girlfriend’s body when the bullets started to fly, and shielded her from a spray of bullets that would likely have hit her.
Jarrell Brooks Helps Save Mom and Her Two Daughters
According to the Huffington Post, Brooks was prepared to flee the theater when he saw a mom, Patricia LeGarreta trying to save her two kids. He stopped and helped her get her kids into the aisle. Brooks and LeGarreta were wounded and both are recovering at home.
Jesse Childress Gives His Life For His Fellow Service Member
Service Member Service member Jesse Childress died a hero. According to KTLA, he jumped in front of a fellow service member when bullets started to fly to protect her from getting hit.
