Hi everyone! I loved all the questions you all submitted on my first Ask Derek post recently. I’m hear to answer another one!
My lovely fan Victoria Wilson asked,
"What is the best thing that has ever happened to u?"
Victoria, that is a tough one… I would have to say that one of the best things that ever happened to me was moving to London when I was younger. It began a journey in my life that wouldn't have happened if I hadn't gone. Traveling and exploring new places always opens greater doors for inspiration and wonderful opportunities.

I lived in London during my teen years while my Dad was in the USAF, fell in love with England. Like you, it gave me a love of travel and adventure, too. Hope you stay in touch with us all when you leave DWTS!!!

Derek, when you were learning dances was there a specific dance that you had a hard time mastering? Or did they all come easy to you? -
If you and Julianne had not gone to London, do you think your paths would have still led you to LA trying to pursue careers in the entertainment industry? Or do you think you would have gone to NYC to try to pursue the stage there? I myself have been fortunate to study and live in other countries during college and they were experiences that have shaped my career and life. I would recommend to any young person to take the chance and travel and/or study abroad if they have the opportunity (if it's for a semester or a year). It really opens up your mind and your world. -

Apart from the birth of my daughter, going to New York City after graduating from high school in Chicago was probably the best thing that ever happened to me. I was exposed to things that only NYC can offer... and, I believe, am better for having done it--the good and the bad.

I completely agree with your answer. I finally took trips to London, Paris, Florence and Venice within the last 3 years. Those cities were on my bucket list and I hope to go back to each of them. Those trips were a dream come true!! Love the pic you posted too :) -
